
The duty-free shopping policy for Hainan province has paid off, a senior local official said during a network media marketing activity “Travel in Hainan province” which kicked off on the afternoon of Sept. 27 in Haikou, capital city of Hainan province.
Executive vice governor of Hainan province Tanli said as of Aug. 31, the two duty-free shops, one in Sanya city and another in Haikou’s airport, have recorded gross sales of 2.5 billion yuan and 2.46 billion yuan respectively.
At present, tourists can enjoy a limitation of 5,000 yuan duty free shopping. The limitation is expected to be lifted to attract more tourists.
