Local metro police arrested a man Sunday for stabbing another passenger with a fruit knife around noon on metro Line 3, according to the metro police's official microblog.
The incident started with an argument between the two men on a train that was traveling between the Shanghai Railway Station and Zhongtan Road stations, according to a report on the news website xinmin.cn. The argument quickly escalated into a scuffle.
The victim was stabbed in the abdomen. He got off the train at the next stop and was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not released.
Police arrested the suspect after they reached the scene. They did not know why the men started arguing. The case remains under investigation.
Microblog users following the report wondered how the suspect got a knife into the metro station. However, local metro officials have said in the past that fruit and kitchen knives are permitted on the metro.
