FOREIGN tourists and local expats spoke highly of Shanghai's public transport system, especially its Metro and taxi services, a recent survey indicates.

Compared with foreigners and out-of-towners, local residents, however, gave a lower score to the performance of the city's public transport system and expected more efforts to improve traffic.

The survey conducted by a local quality control association collected feedback from 2,211 respondents, including 403 foreigners.

Many people also urged the government to get tough on illegal taxi operations.
