BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong on Sunday called for enhanced international cooperation to promote the protection of cultural heritage.

Liu made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the Advisory Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) held Sunday in Beijing.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.

Under the convention, all countries should join hands to build effective international cooperation mechanisms for promoting the protection of cultural heritage.

Cultures in different countries should all be respected to protect the diversity of human civilization, said Liu.

Liu urged to increase investment for cultural heritage protection and rationally capitalize on the cultural heritages so as to realize the sustainability of heritage protection.

The ICOMOS was founded in 1965 in Warsaw as the most influential global non-government organ working for the conservation of cultural heritage sites.
