HAIKOU, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Son-Tinh, the 23rd typhoon of the year, has killed one person and left another six missing in south China's Hainan Province, as well as affected over 1.26 million others, local authorities said Thursday.

Rainstorms and heavy winds have forced 52,000 people to relocate thus far, according to the provincial civil affairs bureau.

The wind and rain have damaged 44,700 hectares of farmland and 1,320 houses, as well as caused direct economic losses of 990 million yuan (158.69 million U.S. dollars), the bureau said.

Typhoon Son-Tinh landed in south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Monday, bringing gales and heavy rains that forced the evacuation of 27,300 people, the regional civil affairs department said.
