GUANGZHOU, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Fourteen people were killed and one was injured in a fire at an underwear factory in south China's Guangdong Province Tuesday, authorities said.

The fire broke out at about 3:30 p.m. at the factory in Chaonan district in the city of Shantou and was put out half an hour later, the emergency management office of the Guangdong provincial government said in a statement.

The injured worker is under treatment at a local hospital.

Senior provincial officials have ordered to set up a working team to investigate the cause of the fire and to step up safety measures to avoid similar fatal fires.
