Drug hazards

Drugs represent a complex social problem, and is related to the common interests of the entire society. In terms of social hazards, drug problem is highly epidemic. The drug problem in a certain country or region may cause harms to not only the local place, but the whole country, and even the mankind. The Political Statement passed at the 20th drug control meeting of the United Nations (UN) has pointed out that drugs harm lives and the society, do great damage to the sustainable development of human beings, and may lead to crimes. The drug problem is the biggest threat to the health and welfare of human beings, the independence, democracy, and stability of nations, social structures, as well as the dignity and hope of millions of people and families.

1. Drug abuse causes serious damages to health. Drugs cause great harms to the health of human beings, and lead to a lot of deaths. Drug addicts are usually sallow and thin, have black lips, and easily get infected by various kinds of diseases, and in serious circumstances they may lose working ability and become increasingly weak till death. According to the 2012 World Drug Report issued by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime: about 200,000 people dies for drug abuse in the world each year; the data from the dynamic management and control system for drug addicts of the National Drug Control Office show that between 2008 and August 2012, 26,169 people died of drug overdose nationwide, and a total of 3,619 people died of drug abuse in Guizhou.
