Police nabs knife attack suspect targetting students

GUANGZHOU, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Police have captured a suspect who attacked six primary school students and one adult with a knife in south China's Guangdong Province, local government said Wednesday.

The suspect, a man surnamed Liao, was arrested at 1:51 a.m. Wednesday in a grove near the Baiwu village, almost 10 hours after the attack, according to the Maoming City Public Security Bureau.

Liao, the 32-year-old suspect living in the villager, is believed to be suffering from mental illness, police said.

The suspect is still under police interrogation.

The attack at Baiwu village in the city of Maoming occurred around 4 p.m. Tuesday when the six students were on their way home, according to local government.

The injured are being treated at local hospitals.
