CHENGDU, June 25 (Xinhua) -- All temporary resettlements for people affected in the April quake in southwest China's Sichuan Province will be completed this month, authorities said Tuesday.

Nearly 90 percent of the 210,000 households affected in April's 7.0-magnitude earthquake have moved into temporary settlements, and the others will be resettled by the end of June, said a spokesman for the Ya'an City government.

Public service buildings and vacant apartments built as low-income housing have been used to accommodate quake victims, and more than 144,000 square meters of prefabricated housing had been built or were being built as of Monday, said the spokesman.

In the city's rural areas, farmers are being encouraged to fortify or rebuild their own homes under the supervision of technical staff. As of Monday, nearly 72,000 houses had been repaired or were being fixed.

Repair work on school buildings is expected to be completed by Sept. 1, when the new school term starts, according to the spokesman.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Lushan County, Ya'an City, on April 20, leaving at least 196 dead.
