Traffic accident kills 16 in E China

NANCHANG, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A traffic accident has left 16 people dead and 10 others injured in east China's Jiangxi Province, local authorities said early Wednesday.

The accident occurred in Nanfeng County of Jiangxi at around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, when a vehicle overturned on a provincial highway, according to the Nanfeng county government.

The vehicle was transporting farmer workers to Jiangxi Province from the neighboring Fujian Province.

Fifteen people were killed on the spot, and one died after medical treatment failed. Ten people were still being treated in the hospital.

Investigation into the accident is under way.
