The procuratorate in Shanghai will handle charges against a postgraduate medical student at Fudan University who is accused of murdering his roommate by poisoning earlier this year.

Shanghai police have completed investigation and will transfer the case to the procuratorate next week, according to West China City Daily.

The suspect, surnamed Lin, did not show signs of psychosis after a forensic psychiatry assessment by police, Huang Guoqiang, the victim's father, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

According to police, Lin and his 28-year-old roommate Huang Yang, another postgraduate medical student, had trivial disputes, and Lin allegedly put toxic compounds into the water cooler in their dorm room.

Huang showed symptoms of being poisoned after drinking the water. He was pronounced dead on April 16.
