Worst flooding hits Yuyao, 70 percent of downtown area underwater

Torrential rains caused by typhoon Fitow lashed Yuyao city in east China's Zhejiang Province, inundating roads, houses and causing river dike breaches. 70 percent of the downtown area was submerged. As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, Fitow had affected 832,870 people in Yuyao, causing direct economic damage of 7 billion yuan (about 1.1 billion U.S. dollars).
