GUANGZHOU, March 3 -- A local legislator in south China's Guangdong Province died after falling off from an apartment building at noon on Monday, local authorities said.

Huang Biaoquan, 61, deputy head of the standing committee of the municipal people's congress in Zhongshan city, was found to have fallen from an apartment building at noon on Monday. He was rushed to hospital for treatment but died on Monday night, the press office of the Zhongshan city said.

Police said their preliminary investigation has ruled out the possibility that Huang was pushed off from the building by others.
