BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the China-Japan Friendship Association issued a statement on Friday, voicing their indignation and opposition toward Japan's "purchase" of the Diaoyu Islands.
The statement also expressed great concern for the act's vicious effects on bilateral relations and friendship between the two peoples.
"This act is a severe infringement upon China's territorial sovereignty, which seriously damages the China-Japan relationship and seriously hurts the feelings of 1.3 billion Chinese people," said the statement.
The Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islets have been an inalienable part of China's territory since ancient times, the statement pointed out, stressing that the "purchase" is totally illegal and invalid.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, and bilateral relations have made unprecedented progress in various fields, the statement said, noting that the relations have not only benefited the two peoples but also made positive contributions to regional and international peace, stability and prosperity.
The achievements came through the unremitting joint efforts of several generations of the two sides, according to the statement, which called on Japan to revoke its wrong decision on the Diaoyu Islands and return bilateral relations to the track of normal development.
As a general trend and in accordance with the peoples' desire, China-Japan friendship will not be stopped by any force, the statement said, stressing that the stability and development of bilateral ties constitute the fundamental and long-term interests of the two peoples.
The Chinese people love peace, but will not swallow the bitter fruit that damages their interests, said the statement.
