China calls on relevant Syrian parties to support Brahimi's mediation efforts

BEIJING, Oct. 17 (People's Daily Online) -- A Foreign Ministry spokesman on Wednesday called for the support of relevant parties in Syria for the mediation efforts of UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi.

China hopes relevant parties in Syria will take a responsible attitude toward the country and its people, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a regular press briefing.

Brahimi recently put forward a proposal calling for a ceasefire in Syria during the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, which starts on Oct. 26.

China hopes related parties will seize this opportunity to create conditions for the start of a political transitional process dominated by the Syrian people, Hong said.
