KATHMANU, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yang Houlan Tuesday briefed the local media and academic circle the just ended 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Yang said that over the past ten years, China has achieved new historic success, moving from being the sixth largest economy to the second largest economy in the world.

With the new leadership in place, China will continue to hold high the banner of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit and strive to maintain world peace and promote common development.

China will continue to reform its political system but will not copy the Western political system, he said.

"We will continue to promote friendship and partnership with our neighboring countries," he told a gathering at the Chinese embassy in the Nepali capital.

The ambassador acknowledged the important relationship shared by China and Nepal, saying Nepal's stability and development was of concern to China.

Vice Chancellor of the Nepal Academy Ganga Prasad Upreti said China has always been supportive towards Nepal and the two countries shared a bilateral relationship.

"Investment requires stability. Nepal should strive to provide security and stability. China is always ready to support Nepal in that matter," he said.

Sujata Koirala, former deputy prime minister and foreign minister, said "Nepali citizens have always supported China and will continue to do. I am also confident that China will also continue to help Nepal in its development and support us throughout."
