BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- More foreign leaders have sent congratulations to Xi Jinping on his election as Chinese president at an annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing in mid-March.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, leaders offering congratulations to Xi by Friday included President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Joseph Kabila; Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama; Rotating Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina Nebojsa Radmanovic; Sammarinese Captains Regent Teodoro Lonfernini and Denise Bronzetti; Trinidad and Tobago's speaker of House of Representatives, Wade Mark, and President of Senate Timothy Hamel-Smith; Tanzania's Zanzibari President Ali Mohamed Shein; Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Liechtenstein Crown Prince Alois; former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva; former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew; Singaporean Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong; India's Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi; Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist-Leninist) and former Nepalese Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, and Chairman of Nepali Congress party Girija Prasad Koirala.
Xi, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, was elected state president and chairman of China's Central Military Commission on March 14 at a plenary meeting of the first session of the 12th NPC.
Also by Friday, leaders offering congratulation to Li Yuanchao on his election as Chinese vice president at the March 14 annual session of the NPC included Tanzania's Zanzibari President Shein and Deputy President of Sudanese National Congress Party Nafi'a Ali Nafi'a.
