BOAO, Hainan, April 8 (Xinhua) -- President Xi Jinping on Monday met with Vuk Jeremic, president of the 67th Session of the UN general assembly, on the sidelines of the 2013 Boao Forum for Asia being held in south China's Hainan Province.

Xi said the UN plays a crucial role in maintaining world peace, adding that more contributions are expected from the organization to promote peaceful development and win-win cooperation worldwide.

"As an active power in safeguarding world peace and promoting common development under the purpose and principles of the UN Charter, China will stick to multilateralism, facilitate talks and make unremitting efforts to properly handle relevant issues through dialogue and negotiations," Xi said.

China will support the UN in facilitating the development of developing countries and reform global governance to give emerging economies a greater say, Xi said.

The UN hopes China will closely cooperate with it in order to maintain stability and safeguard world peace, Jeremic said.

Jeremic said he will make more efforts to promote cultural communication between China and other regions in the world.
