BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping returned to Beijing on Sunday evening after state visits to Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and Mexico, as well as a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama.

Xi paid state visits to Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and Mexico from May 31 to June 6.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Friday that Xi's three-nation Latin American tour has yielded fruitful results.

During the visit, Xi held in-depth discussion with the leaders of the three countries. He also held talks with the leaders of eight Caribbean nations in Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago.

The visits improved mutual trust and set a clear direction for the development of bilateral ties and China's relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, Wang said.

During the visit, China signed 24 agreements with the three nations, covering cooperation in various fields.

After wrapping up the Latin America tour, Xi arrived in the U.S. state of California on Thursday and had a two-day meeting with Obama at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, California on June 7-8.

The summit is the first face-to-face meeting between the presidents of China and the United States since Xi assumed the presidency in March and Obama won a second presidential term in the last November elections.
