Japan: China, DPRK are security concerns

BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Japan says it's facing increasing serious threats to its security from China and the DPRK, according to its latest defense ministry report released on Tuesday.

China and Japan have been locked in a dispute over rival claims to the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea. The report says China's regular patrols in waters around the islands could cause a dangerous contingency.

The white paper report also featured the DPRK, which is considered as one of the Japan's greatest security concern. The report says Japan is studying how to strengthen islands defense ability as well as the ability to intercept missiles.

The report is the first since Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took office, vowing to boost Japan’s defences. Japan is already bolstering its islands’ defense and this year raised its defense budget for the first time in 11 years.
