The increasing interest in Chinese culture will help enhance the cooperation in various fields between China and Denmark, said Danish Ambassador as he paid a visit to People’s Daily Online Thursday.

For most Chinese people, their first impression of Danish culture came from the fairy tales they were told from parents in childhood, while in Denmark, Danish parents tell the story of the ancient Chinese heroine Mulan to their children, said Danish Ambassador to China Friis Arne Petersen.

“Many Danes want to learn more about Chinese culture. That increases likelihood of success like business, people-to-people contact, future research cooperation…all these practices in the future will be made by understanding each other’s culture,” the ambassador said in the interview.

In his two-hour visit at headquarters of People’s Daily Online in Beijing, the ambassador gave an exclusive interview and had a online chat with Chinese web users, sharing Denmark’s experience in promoting green lifestyle, emerging markets and international businesses as well as the diversified exchanges Denmark has with China.

The strong cultural link benefits the two countries’ economic exchange. As the easiest place to run business in Europe, Denmark is the best destination for Chinese investors, said the ambassador.

“The big international Chinese companies are already so experienced (in operating in Europe)…Many Danes study Chinese, (and they) get good insight into Chinese. Therefore, we are approaching each other’s way of doing business,” he explained.

China is working hard to focus on economic growth and environment protection. The Companies from Denmark, which is credited for its efforts in promoting sustainable development, is shifting their attention to China’s green market. The cooperation is stepping up in this sector between China and Denmark.
