San Francisco, Jan.6 (People's Daily Online)---The FBI announced Monday the arrest of the arson suspect in the investigation of a fire set intentionally at the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco.

FBI Special Agent in Charge David J. Johnson said at the press conference that the suspect named Yan Feng, 39, called the police last Friday in Daly City and identified himself as the individual who set the fire in front of the Chinese Consulate General. Daly City police went to his address and arrested him, the agent said.

Johnson announced this morning that the suspect is a Chinese national and has permanent resident status in the United States.

The FBI did not announce an alleged motive, saying the investigation is ongoing. But Johnson said there is no indication the fire was motivated by terrorism, politics or civil rights concerns. And the latest fire was not related to the 2008 blaze.

The main entrance of the Chinese consulate-general was severely damaged in an arson attack last Wednesday but no one was hurt. The fire at the consulate, located at 1450 Laguna St., occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
