Lhasa-- Monks and residents in Tibet are praying for the passengers on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that went missing more than two days ago.

"I hope the jet will be found soon and the people on it safe and sound," said Phuntsog, a monk from Meru Monastery.

Phuntsog took out his smartphone and checked on latest news updates every now and then. His thoughts were with the 12 crew members and 227 passengers on the flight.

Choying posted a picture of Thangka painting and "Om mani padma hum," the six-syllabled mantra of good omen in Tibetan on the mobile social networking application WeChat.

"A safe journey home, MH370," read the post.

The Boeing 777-200 aircraft left Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia at 0:41 a.m. Beijing time on Saturday but failed to land in Beijing at the expected time of 6:30 a.m.

Contact with the flight was lost along with its radar signal at 2:40 a.m. Beijing time on Saturday when it was flying over the Ho Chi Minh air traffic control area in Vietnam.

Tibetans embraced the "Wood Horse Losar", or the Tibetan New Year at the beginning of March. As festival celebrations are coming to an end, life and business return to normal.

"I pray for world peace and a year full of hope," Drolkar said while turning a prayer wheel.
