BEIJING, March 28 -- China here on Friday renewed its call for all parties to avoid acts that could intensify conflicts in Ukraine.

Speaking in the wake of China's abstention on Thursday over the UN General Assembly resolution on the Ukraine crisis, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said, "China upholds fairness and objectiveness on the Ukraine issue."

He said all parties should avoid antagonism and complicating the situation and make efforts to create a favorable environment for a political solution.

"China proposes to set up an international coordinating mechanism composed of relevant parties to discuss ideas and ways for the issue's political solution," according to Hong.

"It is imperative to ease tension, narrow differences through talks, seek consensus, and push forward the political solution," he said.

The spokesman reiterated that the situation in Ukraine is rooted in complex historical and practical factors, and every party's interests should be balanced when solving the issues.

The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on Thursday with 100 votes in favor, 11 votes against and 58 abstentions. The resolution called on all states and international organizations not to recognize the alteration of status of Crimea.
