From mid-January to early February of this year, the southern regions of China suffered four successive attacks of low-temperature rain and freezing snow, registering as the extreme weather of the last 50 years, and of the last 100 years for regions such as Guizhou and Hunan.

Following the disaster, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council attached great importance, and immediately deployed a large-scale disaster relief work.

During the most critical moments, senoir leaders including Chinese President Hu Jintao came to frontline to guide the disaster rescue efforts.

Relevant departments and units acted promptly, the People's Liberation Army and the Armed Police Force bravely shouldered the heavy tasks, persevering in the fight.
