Municipal authorities in southwest China's Kunming City held a memorial service on Tuesday night for the victims of Saturday's deadly terrorist attack at the city's train station.

The memorial service was held at the city's administrative center square at 9:00 p.m. and was attended by families of victims, police officers who had fought with the terrorists and medical workers.

Municipal and railway officials, representatives of citizens were also present.

Participants took a moment of silence for those who died in the attack. They later laid chrysanthemums as a tribute to the deceased.

At the train station where the deadly attack occurred, Kunming citizens held vigils for the victims around a bronze bull sculpture, laying white chrysanthemums and candles.

Candles were arranged in the shape of heart and the date of the carnage, March 1, as well as the city's name written in Roman letters.

Among the victims, five bodies have yet to be claimed by their relatives. The LED display hanging at the side of the square shows a hotline for relatives to call for their lost family members.

Some people squatted near the candles, shedding tears.

A girl who sells accessories near the square said she has been coming to the square every night following the attack.

She told Xinhua reporters that she was very relieved after learning the police had captured the suspects.

A group of veiled men and women slashed at people at the square on Saturday night, killing 29 civilians and injuring 143 others.

Chinese leaders and top political advisors on Monday also paid a silent tribute to victims of the attack at the opening of the annual session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
