Beijing, March 5 (People's Daily Online)— How can a "hundred-year company" be successful in such a long period? How can a foreign company adapt to local market and seek further development? Johannes M. Dietsch, president of Bayer Greater China Group, answered the questions in the interview with People's Daily Online on March 4.

Bayer helps transform "made in China" to "create in China"

Founded in 1863, Bayer is 151 years old now. Dietsch believes that three key factors contribute to Bayer"s success: innovation, constant change and globalization.

"Bayer will invest 11 billion euro in research and development in next three years," Dietsch said.

"We have founded a Polymer Research and Development Center in Shanghai and we try to make it transform into an Asia hub in order to turn our operation in China from ‘made in China" to ‘create in China"," Dietsch further mentioned.

Bayer invests heavily in China

"China is a very important market for us. It is the largest market in Asia and the third globally. We operate here with 13,000 employees and generate sales more than 3.5 billion euro," Dietsch said.

The largest investment that Buyer made outside Germany, which amounts to 2.5 billion euro, is used to establish Bayer's Integrated Polymers Site in Shanghai of China.

Bayer makes great efforts to attract and retain high-quality talents

Bayer regards talents as an important asset and has done a lot of activities in the past to attract, retain and develop talents. Apart from setting up leadership academy and top talent program, Bayer also provides numerous opportunities for its employees in terms of training, overseas assignment.
