The world is familiar with the "Made in China" brand, but there are not so many consumers of Chinese design. In April, a range of carefully-chosen Chinese designs will be presented and commence a new journey, showcasing the talent of Chinese creations and promoting Chinese traditions and culture.
Beijing Design Week (BJDW), in cooperation with the goodwill action plan "Show the World", will promote the Chinese contemporary and folk design and arts show "Kanjian Creation" at the Milan Design Week from April 7. The organizer believes that all the work selected for “Kanjian Creation” is professional and merits its choice - visitors will have a sense of high quality rather than luxury.
Zeng Hui, vice director of the BJDW Organizing Committee, says that design can have a profound impact on life and show its worth through its effect on the lives of ordinary people. “Kanjian Creation” very much fits with this idea, and it will bring Chinese design to the attention of the world and allow the world to admire Chinese design.
Three talents involved in the "Kanjian Creation-Milan Triennale Design Museum"
High-end: Distillation of Chinese traditional crafts
The curators of "Kanjian Creation-Milan Triennale Design Museum" are renowned singer Zhu Zheqin (aka Dadawa), architect Chi wing Lo, and former creative director at Lane Crawford Ross Urwin. Under their professional direction, each art work has been chosen according to a strict set of criteria based on the highest of standards.
More than 50 high-end and best quality works for the show have been gathered from 14 world-renowned designers.
"Kanjian, the leading proponent of contemporary designs inspired by traditional crafts in China, is a design platform with a cultural bent, gathering prominent figures in design to revitalize handicrafts in neglected media such as bamboo, wood, lacquer, ceramics, glass, embroidery, indigo calico… by creating objects that bring forth the essence of these traditions and become an integral part of contemporary life," says Dadawa. "The exhibition will feature a series of exemplary designs with new possibilities and interpretations with new features, all derived from these traditional materials and techniques."
