Li Dan uses bamboo paper and tough paper to fix the broken part of the old books.

Two old book repair workers are busy in the Special Collections Department of the Library of Northeast Normal University.

"We are the old book doctors with sense of mission," Hong Sa defined her job. After 30 complex process of sticking, fixing, pressing and setting using the specific paper and self-made glue, pages of broken and vulnerable old books are bounded into volumes.

After years of hard work, the Library of Northeast Normal University now possesses 320,000 copies of various types of ancient books, with the oldest book dated back to Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 907).

"Paper is the hardest to preserve. It is not easy for the old books to be passed down tol today, so we would do our best to repair them in order to let the wisdom in these books inspire more people. I think this is what we mean to do," said Hong.

China is now in desperate looking for people who can fix old books. "I hope more universities could open specific courses in teaching skills to repair old books, so that more ancient books can be passed from generations to generations."
