The consumer price index (CPI) in the eurozone decreased to a 3-year low of 1.1 percent in September, down from 1.3 percent in August, European Union (EU) statistics office Eurostat said Wednesday.

The consecutive decline, after August's 1.3 percent from 1.6 percent in July, indicated that the inflationary pressure in the single currency club has continued to ease.

The annual inflation in the EU was 1.3 percent, down from 1.5 percent in August. In September, the lowest annual rates were observed in Bulgaria, at minus 1.3 percent, and the highest, of 2.7 percent, was in Britain.

The largest upward impacts on eurozone annual inflation came from tobacco, electricity and accommodation services, while fuels for transport, telecommunications and medical and paramedical services had the biggest downward impacts, Eurostat said.
