U.S. Big Three automakers report rising sales in November

CHICAGO, Dec. 3 -- The three American automakers -- General Motors Co. (GM), Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler -- all posted strong sales last month, led by Chrysler's 16-percent sales gain, the best November performance of the automaker since 2007.

GM sold 212,060 cars, trucks and crossovers in November, rising 13.7 percent year on year; Ford sold 190,449 units, up 7.2 percent; and Chrysler sold 145,275 units, up 16 percent, the Detroit News reported.

Sales of all four GM brands rose year on year. GMC sales jumped 19.8 percent; Buick sales rose 13.4 percent; Cadillac went up 11.4 percent; and Chevrolet sales soared 12.6 percent.

Ford brand sales jumped 6.9 percent; Lincoln brand sales went up 17.4 percent; Fusion and Fiesta were particular standouts, setting November sales records.

Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram Truck brands by Chrysler all reported sales gains. Jeep brand saw its sales jump 30 percent.

Ford, Ram and GM all reported strong sales for full-size pickups in November. GM's combined sales of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups totaled 48,748, up 15 percent year on year; Ford sold 65,501 F-Series, up 16.3 percent; and Ram sold 29,635 pickups, up 22 percent.

As for other automakers, Nissan North America Inc. sold 106,528 vehicles last month in the United States, setting a record high for the month and up 10.7 percent year on year; Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. sold 178,044 vehicles, up 10.1 percent year on year; Hyundai Motor America sold 56,005 units, up 5 percent and a record high. Volkswagen of America Inc. sold 30,727 vehicles, down 16.3 percent year on year.

It is estimated consumers spent more than 30 billion dollars on new vehicles in November.

Market analysts expect auto sales in the United States to reach 15.5 million this year, comparing less than 14.5 million vehicles sold in the United States last year.
