Macao's package tour arrivals down 11.5 pct in October

MACAO, Dec. 13 -- Visitor arrivals in package tours in China's Macao in October decreased by 11.5 percent year on year to 716,867, according to figures released on Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Under the influence of the new Tourism Law in the Chinese Mainland which came into force in October, visitors from the Chinese mainland (526,564) decreased by 10.6 percent year-on-year, with 280,110 from China's Guangdong Province, followed by China's Taiwan (60,414), South Korea (34,646) and China's Hong Kong (34, 060), the figures indicated.

In the first 10 months of 2013, visitors in package tour totaled 8,130,563, up by 10.2 percent year-on-year, according to the DSEC.

Meanwhile, Macao residents traveling outbound using services of travel agencies reached 123,393 in October, up by 11.1 percent year-on-year and those traveling in package tour totaled 46,485, with the Chinese mainland, China's Taiwan and South Korea being the most popular destinations.
