Photos: Chinese Farmers Learning New Knowledge
Farmers attended literacy class in the earlier 1950s. The Chinese government launched a
big campaign to wipe out illiteracy after founding of the New China then known for an
illiteracy rate of 80 percent.

In late 1970s, farmers of Huaide County, Jilin Province, made most of their
cassette-recorders in training class. Chinese villages set off a new surge of learning
agro-technologies after the so-called "culture revolution".

Young farmers of Huoqiu County in west Anhui, are having computer class at the
poverty-relief and development personnel training center.
