Sports Belgium Upsets Italy 3-1 in Friendly Soccer

Belgium stunned Italy with a surprising 3-1 victory in a friendly international in Lecce, Italy, on Saturday thanks to two goals in the final 20 minutes.

Belgium led the game in the sixth minute when Branko Strupar met a corner from Marc Wilmots with a firm header and a well- positioned Gilles De Bilde headed in from close range.

Italy bounced back in the 26th minute with a goal from Parma left winger Paolo Vanoli. Mbo Mpenza's headed clearance fell to Vanoli 20 meters out and his rocketing drive gave Belgium Ronald Gaspercic no chance.

Belgium dominated after the break when Marc Wilmots headed home a right wing cross from Regis Genaux in the 70th minute. Five minutes later, Belgium confirmed the victory as Yves Vanderhaeghe fired in a low shot which Gianluigi Buffon could only parry out to Bart Goor who scored.
