China Macao Governor Leaves for Beijing

Macao Governor Vasco Rocha Vieira left Macao on November 22 for a three-day official visit to Beijing.

Speaking to the press at the Macao International Airport, Vieira said China and Portugal have maintained fine relations of cooperation and friendship in Macao's transitional period.

He said the Portuguese Macao government will undertake due responsibility and obligations during the days before the handover, so as to ensure a smooth power transfer.

The governor is scheduled to meet Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Vice-Premier Qian Qichen, the State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office Director Liao Hui and Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Yingfan.
