Friday, November 26, 1999, updated at 09:44(GMT+8) Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, reopened on November 25 to traffic after being closed for nearly 23 hours because to heavy snow. Taoxian International Airport open again at 8:30 a.m this morning. Snow and ice on the runways has been cleared, but no flights had taken off or landed by press time. Airlines will soon resume normal flights, according to the aviation command center. A sleet turning into heavy snow in Shenyang forced the local airport to close at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, canceling all 27 scheduled flights, including two to the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong. Some 2,000 passengers were stranded. According to the airport weather station, the snow lasted for more than 10 hours and accumulated to nine centimeters at the airport. A Siberian cold front brought heavy snow yesterday to northeast China. Jilin, Liaoning's neighboring province, also closed its airport at noon yesterday because of the heavy snow.
