Memorial Service For Nanjing Massacre Victims

About 2,000 people in this capital of east China's Jiangsu Province attended a memorial service held on December 13 in remembrance of 300,000 victims massacred in Nanjing by Japanese aggressors 62 years ago.

Gu Hao, deputy secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that the service was held so that the people of China would not forget those who were killed.

The Chinese people and all peace-loving people in the world, including those in Japan, would never forget the atrocities committed by the Japanese aggressors, he said.

Gu said that the Chinese people will never accept or tolerate attempts by Japanese right-wing extremists to whitewash Japan's modern history and deny that the Nanjing Massacre ever happened.

The service attracted local leaders, non-Communist party members, leaders of various societies, soldiers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, veterans of the War against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945) and students.
