South China Customs Reports Record Flow of Passengers in New Millennium

- Gongbei Customs, the only land gate linking the Chinese motherland with Macao, reported a record of 280,000 entries and exits in the first two days of the new millennium.

The figure was 70,000 more than the number for the first two days of 1999.

This New Year's Day marked the first year following Macao's return to the Chinese motherland, and the weather was fine during the festival. Taking this advantage, Macao compatriots flocked to the mainland to do shopping and visit their kith and kin.

Many inland tourists too went to Macao to enjoy the scenery there.
