China Foreign Experts Contribute Development of Northeast China Port City

Introduction of foreign experts into the city of Dalian in northeast China's Liaoning Province has boosted the port city's social-economic development, officials said.

During 1999, more than 4,000 experts from over 30 countries such as the United States, Japan, Germany and France, were invited to work or give advice, according to a source at the Municipal Office of Introduction of Foreign Talents.

The traffic jams have eased after the city's communication departments accepted and put into practice eight concrete proposals raised by two Italian experts on further improving urban traffic control.

A German professor helped Dalian Medical Sciences University set up a large biology and plastics research base.

Meanwhile, these foreign experts have also taught local people how to make improvements in aquatics breeding, environmental protection, and reform of state-owned enterprises.

Moreover, Dalian will introduce 5,000 more foreign experts to work in the city this year. And the city government will also create still more favorable conditions to encourage high-quality experts to work longer in the city, officials at the office said. (Xinhua)
