China Central People's Government Liaison Office in HK Goes into Operation

The Xinhua News Agency Hong Kong Branch was officially renamed the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on January 18.

"A new leaf was turned in the history of the representative bodies of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong," Jiang Enzhu, the newly-appointed director of the office, said at the renaming ceremony held at the office of the Xinhua News Agency Hong Kong Branch Tuesday morning.

Jiang said that the organ was renamed to promote the implementation of the policies of "One Country, Two Systems," "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong", a high degree of autonomy and the Basic Law.

The new office and staff will strictly follow the Basic Law and local laws, and perform their duties in accordance with these laws,Jiang said.

The office will support the HKSAR government's administration in accordance with the Basic Law and help maintain the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
