Chinese Wild Card Endes Dream Open Run

Chinese wild card Yi Jingqian's dream run at the Australian Open was brought to an end by American Jennifer Capriati, bowing out 6-4, 6-4 in a third-round match at Melbourne Park on Friday.

Yi, rated 141st in the WTA world rankings, was trying to put ona fight but seemed to find no answer to the former Olympic champion's powerful game.

A nation wide attention on the ongoing grand slam was sparkled as Yi reached the tournament's third round on Wednesday, a rare deed on the dismal Chinese tennis circuit.

The Chinese wild card beat Laurence Courtois of Belgium 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in the first round and then toughed out a 6-3, 2-6, 9-7 win over Julie Pullin of Britain. (Xinhua)
