Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Russian Guests

China appreciates Russia's reiteration of its one China stand following an election in the Taiwan region, Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao said in Beijing Tuesday. Wen made the remark in a meeting with Victor Kalyuzhnyi, minister of fuel and power of Russia, and his party.

Wen said that immediately after the election in the Taiwan region, Russia reiterated its stance to oppose "two Chinas," or " one China, one Taiwan," and reaffirmed its adherence to the one China stand. China appreciates Russia's attitude in this regard, he said.

He said that Kalyuzhnyi's China tour has promoted mutual understanding between the two countries, especially in the energy field, and the two sides have reached common understanding in many respects. The visit made good preparations for the regular meeting between the prime ministers of China and Russia.

Kalyuzhnyi said that China's economy has developed rapidly in recent years, and it is playing an important role in Asia-Pacific affairs.

He said that Russia hopes to continue to develop its friendship with China, and push forward the cooperation and exchanges between the two countries in the energy and other fields. The second session of the sub-committee on energy cooperation of the regular Sino-Russian Commission was held from March 20 to 21.

Zeng Peiyan, minister of the State Development Planning Commission, and Kalyuzhnyi held talks on furthering energy cooperation between the two countries.
