Island Province to Lure Tourists

Hainan will host a travel festival at the end of this year to show travel and tourism businesses the wonderful things this island has to offer to tourists. Co-sponsored by the China National Tourism Administration and Hainan Province, the festival is scheduled to be held from November 3 to 24 this year.

The island province located in the far southern part of China, with its average 25 C tropical climate in November, is still convenient for vacations, while in most parts of China the chilly winter season has begun.

During the festival, a series of Hainan-based tourism and entertainment projects will be presented, the organizing committee said.

Tourists coming to the island province can go scuba diving to see the underwater world, or visit the ethnic villages of Li and Miao.

People who love nature can join a special tour to explore the island's virgin forest.

Some sports activities will also be held on the island. China's traditional dragon boats and a sailing boat rally from Hainan to Hong Kong will be held in November.

Traditionally Hainan has become a popular location for weddings in the scenic spot "tianya haijiao," when thousands of new couples from across the country will have their marriage ceremonies there.

The tourist festival focuses on visitors from China and abroad. In order to make it easier for foreign guests to get around, new signage in several foreign languages have been put up across the island.

The organizing committee said they have invited many tourist agencies from around the world to inspect Hainan's tourist facilities and hopes that those agencies will recommend more tourists from abroad to visit.
