Snowstorms Strand 36,000 Herdsmen in Inner Mongolia

Snowstorms since March 22 have blocked roads and stranded 36,000 herdsmen in the Hulun Buir Grassland, in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

No casualties have been reported so far.

The region's meteorological department reported that the snowfall reached 35 centimeters in the disaster areas, with the thickest exceeding 50 centimeters.

Meanwhile, some 200,000 head of sheep and cattle are at risk, many of them about to give birth to young.

Local governments at all levels have transported nearly 20,000 tons of forage to the disaster areas, cleared 15,000 km of snow-covered roads and transported large numbers of livestock to safety.
