Chinese Vice Premier Urges Quicker Greening

Chinese Vice Premier Wen Jiabao urged the country to accelerate forestation Thursday.He said at a plenary meeting of the National Greening Committee (NGC) held in Beijing that the country will continue to push forward the campaign of all the people volunteering to plant trees.

Wen, also director of the NGC, said that the country should also acceleration forestation in both urban and rural areas, improve ecological environment and conditions of agriculture and coordinate forestation efforts with the implementation of the national strategy of developing the western part of China.

He said that many green corridors should be developed across the country and various key ecological projects should be accelerated.

In order to improve the quality of forestation, he said that the country has to strengthen management, rely on technology, improve relevant mechanism, strengthen enforcement of laws and improve leadership in this respect.
