50th Anniversary of Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association

Chinese folklorists and artists celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association in the southwest capital of Sichuan Province, Chengdu.

The Association, formerly called the China Society for the Study of Folk Literature and Art, was founded in 1950. It is made up of Chinese writers, dramatists, musicians, painters, dancers and ballad singers.

The Association has made great achievements in the past 50 years with many outstanding Chinese traditional art works and folk literature.

During the celebration meeting, the "Shanhua Prize," China's top honor for outstanding works of folk art and literature, was awarded to 18 Chinese folk artists in film, singing, painting and storytelling. This is the first time for the awarding of such prize.

The Prize was established by the Association and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.

Performances and exhibitions featuring artistic achievements of folklorists and artists will be held over the next few days.
