Lee Teng-hui Reaps What He Has Sown

China's Xinhua News Agency March 29 issued an article by its commentator, entitled "Lifting a Rock Only to Drop it on One's Own Feet."

Whoever advocates "Taiwan Independence" will come to no good. Taiwan leader Lee Teng-hui's stepping down from his position of chairman of the Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang, is a case in point, the article says.

During Lee's 12 years in power, he took advantage of his position to plot "independence" surreptitiously and destroy relations across the Taiwan Straits. At the very beginning, Lee maintained his support for the "one China" and "reunification." But it did not take too long for Lee to reveal his true colors and announce to all and sundry in his "two Chinas," "one China, one Taiwan" and "two states" policies.

He supported separatist forces which have become rampant destructive forces in Taiwan.

Lee Teng-hui's bad deeds have deeply hurt the feelings of both Taiwanese compatriots and mainland Chinese. There is an old Chinese saying that he who plays with fire will get burnt. It is not surprising to see the Taiwanese people take to the streets in protest. Their outrage finally forced Lee to resign.
