Hewlett-Packard to Develop E-commerce in China

The Hewlett-Packard (HP) Company signed an agreement with a Chinese company on April 5 to set up an E-commerce development center in western China.

Cheng-Yaw Sun, president of China HP Co., Ltd, said that the cooperation with the Xi'an Xietong Software Company is the first step for HP to be engaged in China's development of its western regions.

The new center, with an investment of 68 million yuan (about US$ eight million), will develop software and provide services for China's potential E-commerce market. It is expected to become the biggest company of its kind in the western region, Sun said.

The Xi'an Xietiong Company, with 230 researchers, is one of China's leading software companies.
