Education Ministry Calls for Overall Security Checkup
For serious occurrences of school accidents as many abnormal deaths caused in various places in China, the Ministry of Education April 11 called on all subsidiary departments concerned to conduct a thorough security checkup and to solve potential problems in time.
Chinese Youth Daily quoted Vice Minister of Education Lu Fuyuan present Tuesday at a working meeting checking into the security work of the education system in Beijing as saying that measures should be taken to ensure the personal safety of teachers and students and their spring outing.
According to the Ministry of Education, serious cases from fire and traffic accidents, social security, house collapse and cases of poisoning have recently brought a rising death toll among students in many places in China.
Statistics show that there are as many as 50 serious accidents that have occurred in the first quarter of the year, a 117% increase over the same period last year, leaving 68 abnormal deaths and another 165 wounded.
