Universiade Foreign Languages Service Center Opened to Service

The start-up ceremony of "Beijing Citizens Foreign Languages Training Center", namely "The 21st Universiade Foreign Languages Service Center" was held in Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) April 12.

Beijing is going to play host to the 21st Universiade, a major international event to be held for the first time in China in 2001. BFSU took the initiative in providing foreign languages service and training as required for Beijing residents. BFSU, with a history of 60 years, as the key one of the country's "211 Project", offers 31 foreign languages, being the largest center for foreign languages teaching and learning in China. BFSU has made a lot of preparatory work since it shoulders the task to provide the 21st Universiade with language service. "Popular English" under the editorship of Professor Hu Wenzhong, has been published. A 55-scene TV serial, based on "Popular English", will soon be off press to help people in English study. Other publications for popularizing a variety of language teaching and learning will also be put out by Foreign Language and Teaching Press.
